Caracas picked up three points at UCV, winning 1-0 in the fourth round of the Clausura tournament on Thursday night. Robert Hernandez scored the only goal of the match in the nineteenth minute, and the visitors held on despite going down to ten men after J. Uribe's red card in the seventy-first minute.
By then, UCV had already missed their chance from the spot. S. Gonzalez fired wide from the penalty spot in the forty-fifth minute, and here's the thing — they never really looked like finding another way through. The hosts had 68 per cent of the ball and created two big chances, but the score remained 0-0 until Hernandez struck.
Caracas were under the cosh for long stretches, but they kept their shape. The visitors made 37 clearances compared to UCV's nine, and they worked the channels when they could. Robert Hernandez got booked for his trouble twenty-seven minutes in, but his goal was enough to keep them in the game.
Things came to a head when Uribe was dismissed on the hour-and-twenty mark. UCV threw bodies forward — four substitutions before half-time alone — but they lost their man in key areas. Shots accuracy was 33 per cent for the hosts with six on target from fifteen attempts, and most of those shots went begging.
The result leaves UCV seventh on 30 points from 20 games, while Caracas climb to ninth place with 25 points from 21 matches. Neither side is especially hot or cold — UCV have lost four of their last five, and Caracas have won just one of those same five. A poor result for the hosts, certainly, but not a disaster.
