Jack James Walton

Jack Walton returned to Dundee United in May 2026, signing permanently on a three-year contract until 2029 after two loan spells at Tannadice had already made him a familiar face to the club's supporters. Those loans, covering 2023 to 2025, brought 85 appearances in all competitions, and it was during the 2023–24 season that Walton established himself as first-choice goalkeeper as Dundee United won the Scottish Championship and returned to the top flight.

Walton came through the youth ranks at Bury before moving into the Bolton Wanderers academy and then to Barnsley, where he was named Academy Player of the Year for 2014–15 and signed his first professional contract the following August. He spent loan spells at Stalybridge Celtic and went on to make 62 appearances for Barnsley's first team, also winning the EFL Trophy with the club in 2015–16, though he was an unused substitute in the final.

A move to Luton Town in January 2023 did not bring first-team football; instead, the two seasons at Dundee United on loan became the defining spell of his career to date. Walton left for Preston North End permanently in July 2025 on a three-year deal, making five appearances during the 2025–26 season and taking in a brief emergency loan at Cambridge United along the way, before Dundee United moved to bring him back for good.

Walton has represented England at youth level, from the under-18s up to the under-20s, though he has not been capped at senior international level.
