About the player
Joel Ruiz came through FC St. Gallen's own academy, having moved there via Gossau and Wil 1900 before captaining the club's U21 side. The step up came in October 2025, when he made his first-team debut for St. Gallen, and the club followed it in January 2026 with a contract that ties him to the side for years to come.
The bigger moment arrived at the end of that season. Ruiz was part of the St. Gallen squad that won the Swiss Cup, beating Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy 3–0 in the final. He was not on the pitch for most of it, coming on only in the 89th minute. It followed an earlier success at youth level, where he had already won the Swiss U19 Cup.
Internationally, Ruiz has been capped by Switzerland at U20 level.
