About the player
Hugo Vandermersch came up through the French youth system at US Pays de Saint-Omer before joining US Boulogne's academy, then moved to SM Caen, where he progressed through the reserve side before making his first-team debut in 2019.
In the 2023–2024 season, Vandermersch was loaned out to SV Elversberg in Germany's 2. Bundesliga, where he made 26 appearances and contributed 2 goals and 2 assists from defence. The loan spell led to a permanent move: in September 2024, he transferred to FC St. Gallen for a fee of around €800,000.
Right-footed, Vandermersch has not been called up to any French national youth teams.
