Aviron Bayonnais

Three French championships sit in the Aviron Bayonnais record books, and the one still talked about most in Bayonne came in 1934, when the club beat Biarritz Olympique 13–8 in the final.

The rugby section split off formally on 14 October 1906, though the wider Aviron club had already existed since 1904.

Stade Jean-Dauger carries the name of a player rather than a patron — Jean Dauger, alongside Jean Iraçabal and Christian Bélascain.

The last of the three French titles came in 1943, won 3–0 against SU Agen, and long stretches outside the top division followed. Pro D2 became the way back, taken twice, in 2019 and 2022, each time turning a second-division campaign into a return to the Top 14. Maxime Machenaud ran the side through part of that climb, with Manu Tuilagi later adding his name to the Bayonne shirt.

Three national championships in over a century, the last of them settled 3–0.
