RC Toulon

In 2013 Toulon beat Clermont in the Heineken Cup final, and again in 2015 against Clermont.

Rugby Club Toulonnais grew out of a merger between Étoile Sportive Varoise and part of Stade Varois in 1908. The relegation, decades later, brought the club close to collapse, and it took Mourad Boudjellal's takeover in 2006 to change the trajectory.

Toulon had already won the French championship in 1931, 1987 and 1992, but the 2014 title, sealed in the same year as the second Heineken Cup, was the one that closed the gap between domestic and European success. The Challenge Cup followed in 2023, adding to four runner-up finishes in that same competition across more than a decade.

Stade Mayol holds 17,500 and sits close enough to the old town that match days spill into it. Les Rouge et Noir carries the club's colours into a fixture list built around two different rivalries: the derby du Var against Provence Rugby, close to home, and the sharper edge reserved for Castres Olympique, born out of finals rather than geography.

The club now plays its rugby in the Top 14, still measured against the standard it set for itself between 2013 and 2015.
