Ayr

Nine former schoolboys chose the cerise and black that the club still wears at The King's Arms Hotel in Ayr in September 1897. For the next 65 years it had no home of its own, moving between Newton Park, Dam Park, the King George V playing field and the Old Racecourse. That ended in 1962, when 162 members voted to buy a run-down nine-acre market garden in Alloway called Millbrae; the existing house became the clubhouse, two pitches went in, and the club settled there in 1964. The ground is now being fitted with stadium-style seating under the Macdonald Legacy project.

That 2012–13 season stands apart: Premiership and Cup together, plus the Bill McLaren Shield for the best home record in the league, awarded for the first time to any club. The Ayrshire Bulls, the region's professional franchise, added the Super 6 title in 2022.

The academy's output has outgrown the club itself. Steve Munro left with the distinction of having been the country's leading try-scorer in 1978–79.

Marr, just down the coast in Troon, supplies the local derby.
