In 1951 the champions of Czechoslovakia lining up for Sokol Královo Pole were not really one club: the title that year was claimed by a combined side made up of Sokol Královo Pole and Sokol Brno IV, the last of four national championships the Brno outfit would gather before the country split in two. The earlier three had come in 1932, 1933 and 1939, and a youth title followed in 1957, but nothing at that level has been added since — the Czech Extraliga and Czech Cup have stayed out of reach through the whole of the independent era.

The section traces itself back to 1920, under the name SK Královo Pole, in the district of Brno that still gives the club its base. Somewhere along the way it picked up the nickname Kénik, and this season it has brought yellow shirts back into rotation alongside the established red and white as a nod to that old tag. Home games are played in front of 2,900 seats at the STAREZ Aréna Vodova, and the fixture that still sharpens attention on the calendar is the one against SHC Maloměřice Brno, played out as the Brněnské derby, sometimes called the Šalina derby.

Promotion back to the Extraliga arrived in 2010 through a playoff win, and the modern era has been shaped less by silverware than by rebuilding: Andrej Titkov took the club to a bronze medal in the league in 2015, and since 2020 Pavel Hladík has run things as head coach and sports director, with the youth academy given as much attention as the senior side. Line player Michal Dostalík has carried the club's name into the Czech national team.

In Europe, KP Brno have kept turning up in the EHF European Cup without yet forcing a deep run — Round 3 in 2023–24, the last 16 the following season, then back to Round 2 in 2025–26 — and Round 1 is what awaits them when the 2026–27 edition begins.
