In 2002, players who had come through a school system in León lifted the Copa del Rey, a year after the club had already claimed the Liga ASOBAL title. Both trophies trace back to a group of former students at the Colegio Marista San José, who set up Club Balonmano Ademar León in 1956.

The league and cup double came inside three seasons that also produced two Copa ASOBAL wins, in 1999 and 2009, and two European Cup Winners' Cup titles, in 1999 and 2005. The Supercopa ASOBAL never followed; Ademar reached the final in 2002 and again in 2003 and left empty-handed both times.

What the honours board does not show is how much of the national team Ademar has supplied over the years. José Javier Hombrados went from the club's goal to a World Championship medal in 2005 and still holds the record for league appearances at Ademar.

Matches are played in white at the Palacio de los Deportes de León, a ground that still fills for the Derbi Leonés, the meeting with city rival Balonmano León.
