CUBA

Club Universitario de Buenos Aires sits in the URBA Top 12 these days, still measured against the same two names that have shadowed it for a century: San Isidro Club and Belgrano Athletic. The rivalry with San Isidro carried the biggest weight in the club's early decades; the one with Belgrano has sharpened more recently.

Students set the club up on 11 May 1918, and the "Los Universitarios" nickname has stuck ever since. The rugby ground sits out in Villa de Mayo, while the club still keeps its central office on Viamonte, in the city itself.

CUBA built its identity on URBA Championships through the middle of the twentieth century, taking the title in 1951 and 1952, then again in 1968, 1969 and 1970. After that, nothing. Forty-three years passed without another URBA crown until 2013 restored it, and the club backed that up the following year by beating Duendes Rugby Club to the Torneo Nacional de Clubes, its only national title. In 2021 it won the URBA final again, edging San Isidro 10–9.

Fifteen URBA Championships in total sit in the club's history, spread across nine decades between the first, in 1931, and the most recent, in 2021.
