The club has spent its whole existence in the second tier. The closest it has come to climbing was 2021, when it reached the semi-finals of the second phase and then went no further.

The Copa Venezuela has given the sharper memories. In 2019 the run ended in the last sixteen against Monagas SC, and it ended badly: 7-2 on aggregate, a tie that was gone long before the second leg finished. Six years later the same round came round again on very different terms. Dynamo finished second in Group A with 10 points and went through to the play-offs — the same stage, arrived at by a side that no longer had to hold on.

The rivalry that carries most weight locally is with Atlético La Cruz, from neighbouring Monagas, though nobody has given the fixture a name. There is also Academia Anzoátegui, from Puerto La Cruz itself, which turns a group-stage meeting in the Central-Eastern section into a city game without anyone needing to explain why.
