Esbjerg Women

Two Esbjerg clubs, KVIK Esbjerg and Esbjerg Håndboldklub, pooled their players in 1991 rather than compete against each other for the same pool of local talent, and the arrangement worked well enough that both general assemblies made it official in 1993 under the name Team Esbjerg. The men's side left for HH Esbjerg in 2004, the same year the women secured a permanent place in the top Danish league, and the club has been built around that women's team ever since.

What followed changed the shape of Danish handball. Team Esbjerg has taken the domestic title six times, most recently in 2026, and lost three finals along the way.

The squad has carried a strong Norwegian accent for years, with Nora Mørk and Sanna Solberg-Isaksen among the imports who gave the team its cutting edge, while the academy has kept producing its own, Rikke Poulsen and Mette Tranborg among them.

Odense Håndbold provides the fixture locals call the "klassiker," and few Danish rivalries carry as much weight season to season, but it is Herning-Ikast Håndbold that Esbjerg meets when the table is actually on the line.
