Ringkøbing Håndbold Women

Ringkøbing sits on the edge of the fjord in West Jutland, a town small enough that its handball club has never needed a separate identity from the place itself. When the women's sides of Ringkøbing KFUM and Ringkøbing SK merged in 2007, the point was not to create something new so much as to stop splitting what little playing talent a town this size produces between two clubs competing for the same players.

The merger paid off within a few years: Aalborg DH's bankruptcy opened a route into the Damehåndboldligaen for the 2013/14 season, and Ringkøbing Håndbold took it, reaching the top flight without having built toward it through the usual gradual climb. They have not stayed there without interruption. The club dropped back down and returned the harder way, winning the 1. Division in 2020/21 to earn promotion again. A second-place finish in a relegation round remains as close as the team has come to establishing itself among the league's settled names.

The roster has carried players from well beyond Jutland — Sofie Blichert-Toft and Katrine Thomsen among the Danish internationals, alongside Swedish imports such as Linnéa Claeson and Michaela Ek, evidence that a club of this size still recruits with some reach. Jesper Holmris has held the head coaching job since 2019, longer than any of his predecessors, in a post that changed hands almost every season through the club's first decade.

There is no fixed rival with a name attached to it, but the games against Nordvestjysk Elite in nearby Holstebro carry the weight of a local match, two West Jutland clubs measuring themselves against each other rather than against the league table. It is the kind of fixture that mattered before either club had won anything, back when two teams from the same small town were still deciding whether to become one.
