Against EH Aalborg, positioning in the league is usually at stake. Ikast Håndbold sits in the same company, sharpened by a Cup final the two sides played out in 2004.

That final is the one honour on the shelf. Horsens beat Ikast/Bording EH to lift the Danish Cup, a result that sent them into the EHF Cup Winners' Cup the following season, where they went as far as the round of 16. A year earlier they had already reached the quarter-finals of the EHF Cup. The league title has never followed; the closest the club has come was second place in the 2025/2026 season.

Between those points sits a spell of instability rare for a club with a top-flight past. Horsens held its place in the top division from 1996 to 2010, then dropped to the 1. Division. The fall continued in 2011/12, when unpaid participation fees forced a further relegation to the 2. Division. Promotion and relegation followed each other through the rest of the decade — up in 2013/14, down again in 2014/15, up once more in 2015/16 — before the club worked its way back to the Damehåndboldligaen in 2018/19.

Officially, the shirts registered with the Danish Handball Federation are red with black shorts. Almost nobody calls the club that in practice: it plays under the nickname De Gule, the Yellows, and yellow and black are the colours that stick. The name traces to 1985, when HfH and Dagnæs IF merged to form the club, though HfH's own roots reach back further, into handball played in the town from 1920.

None of it changes what still sharpens attention on the fixture list — Aalborg for the table.
