Fourteen national championships are on the record at Heidelberger Ruderklub, and eight of them fell between 2010 and 2018 — a run that closed with a runners-up finish in the European Rugby Continental Shield in 2018, the closest HRK has come to a continental title.
The rugby section traces back to the early 1890s, when Professor Edward Hill Ullrich brought the game to a club that had existed since 1872 as a rowing society, making HRK the oldest rugby-playing club in Germany. The men's side plays as the Zebras, and its ground on Speyerer Straße holds 1,500.
