Kidderpore

In 1987 Kidderpore SC met Assam Rifles in the final of the Bordoloi Trophy and won it. Seventeen years later it reached another final, the Independence Day Cup of 2004, and found no answer to Oil India FC, losing 0:2. Between and around those two afternoons the club has never taken a Calcutta Premier Division title, in the top flight or below it.

The 2023 season came with the Calcutta Football League reorganised: divisions A and B were folded together, and Kidderpore, drawn into Group II, got through to the Super Six round. The following year the club's manager, Akash Das, was arrested in a match-fixing case.

Kidderpore's longer claim runs through the players who passed out of it. Sheoo Mewalal, among the most prolific forwards Indian football has produced, came up here. So did Gautam Sarkar, a defender later honoured with the Mohun Bagan Ratna, and Arun Kumar Ghosh, who moved into coaching and became vice-president for training at the Kolkata Football Academy.

The club began on 1 January 1917, set up by a Briton, Napier McDonald, in the Kidderpore quarter of the city and based on the grounds of Bhukailash Rajbari. It was not a football club then but a multi-sport one. After independence in 1947 the members reorganised what they were doing and took the name it carries now.
