Moss

Melløs stadion holds 3,170 for league fixtures, a number that says something about Moss FK without needing further comment: this is a club whose ground was never built for the crowds its best years briefly promised. The colours there are black and yellow, carried on a shield-shaped crest with a yellow border, and the ground has stayed the club's home through every version of what Moss has been.

That includes an earlier version that was not just football. The organisation shed its other sports through the 1920s, and by 1929 what remained took the name Moss Fotballklubb. No merger sits anywhere in that story — one club, narrowing to one sport.

The 1980s are where Moss's name means something beyond Østfold. In 1981 the club reached the Norwegian Cup final and lost it. Two years later it won the Cup outright, and the winning goal in that final came from the penalty spot, taken by the captain, Stein Kollshaugen. In 1987, Moss went further still and took the Eliteserien title, the club's only league championship.

Fredrikstad FK is the fixture that carries weight here, a meeting known as the Romeriksderby despite the two clubs sitting at opposite ends of the same fylke. The rivalry hardened in exactly those 1980s seasons, when Moss had the results to make it a genuine contest rather than a geographical formality.

Of the players who passed through, Einar Jan Aas is the one whose career reads largest: 24 caps for Norway across the late 1970s and into the 1980s, before he moved on to Nottingham Forest. Kollshaugen stayed closer to home and closer to the club's own history — captain, 18 caps, and the man who scored the goal Moss supporters still point to first.
