In Tashkent in 2018, AGMK stood between Pakhtakor and yet another domestic trophy, and for once the capital side did not have the last word — a 3-1 win gave Almalyk's club its only major honour to date. It has not happened again since, though not for lack of trying: three more cup finals followed, the most recent in 2023, and each ended the other way.

The club traces to 2004, formed from the merger of two Almalyk sides, Kimyogar and Metallurg, both by then dissolved. It played under the AGMK name at first, switched to Almalyk FK in 2009, and returned to AGMK in 2018 — the same year the cup was won.

Home matches are played at the AGMK Stadium, opened in 2014 with room for 12,000. It replaced the club's older Metallurg ground, which had held roughly 11,000.

League results have followed the same shape of arriving close and stopping short: third behind Pakhtakor in both 2020 and 2021. Runners-up to Nasaf followed in 2024, with no title arriving from any of it. Pakhtakor is the name that keeps recurring at the sharpest moments — the side denied by AGMK once, and the side that denied AGMK twice in the years that followed.
