In April 2021, Aarhus Håndbold went bankrupt. The new side took the name Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold and split its home games between the small Skanderborg Fælled and the far larger Ceres Arena in Aarhus. Two years later, Aarhus Gymnastikforening bought a 50 percent stake and the club became Skanderborg AGF Håndbold, though the SAH abbreviation stuck around from the old name.

The original AGF Håndbold won four Danish men's championships through the late 1950s and into the 1960s, took the Danish Cup in 1967 and reached a European Cup final in 1960, while the women's side had already been champions twice in the 1940s. The colours do: Skanderborg AGF still plays in red and white, and still carries the nickname De Hvide — The Whites.

It reached the Danish Championship final in 2026 and the Super Cup final the same year, losing both to Aalborg Håndbold, which has become the team's defining rival. Thomas Arnoldsen came through the youth system here before leaving for Aalborg and winning Olympic gold with Denmark in 2024; his brother Frederik also passed through the club.

Freja Arena, the current name for the old Skanderborg ground, holds 1,790.
