Smiltene

Valmiera FC is the fixture Smiltene supporters mark first on the calendar. The two towns share the Vidzeme region, and matches between them are known as the Vidzeme derby — a fixture Valmiera's own club website once described as carrying a "derby atmosphere" after Smiltene came away beaten.

The club playing under that name today was registered on 20 October 2000 as FK Abuls; it only became Smiltene/BJSS in 2010, and has worn green and black throughout.

Home games are played at Tepera stadions, rebuilt in 2019 and renamed in the process — before that it was known as Smiltenes pilsētas stadions.

Every honour Smiltene have won sits in the second tier: the club has topped the Latvijas 2. līga table repeatedly over the years, and its best run in the Latvian Cup ended at the last 16, a stage it has reached three times, most recently in 2021.

One season broke that pattern of quiet, second-tier consistency. Promoted to the Latvian First League in 2008, Smiltene finished the campaign without a win, a draw or even a single point — 0-0-28 — and went straight back down. The club did not return to the First League until 2014, and has held its own there since, finishing third in 2019.

The player supporters know best right now is Dagnis Sausais, the goalkeeper who captains the side.
