Two teenagers from the youth academy, Octavio Gaona and Óscar Martínez, left Sportivo Ameliano in 2026 for a trial at Barcelona's La Masía.

The shirt they wore carries a blue V on white, the mark that gave the club its nickname, The Blue V. Sportivo Ameliano was founded on 6 January 1936 in the Barrio Jara district of Asunción, and its social headquarters have stayed there ever since — as has Tacuary, the neighbour it meets in the Clásico de Barrio Jara.

The club has never been champion of Paraguay's top division; the nearest it has come is fourth place, in the 2026 Apertura. Getting that close took decades working up through the pyramid: champion of the third division in 1959, the fourth in 2003, the third again in 2006, and the second in 2019. Three years after that last promotion, Ameliano won its first national trophy, the Copa Paraguay, and followed it with the Supercopa Paraguay — both in 2022. Freddy Vera, capped by Paraguay since 2024, is now the shirt's link to the senior national team.

Since February 2025, none of it has played out in Barrio Jara. Home matches moved to Villeta, to a stadium the club built itself: La Fortaleza del Pikysyry, seating 7,000.
