Trostianets sits in the Sumy region, 25 km from Akhtyrka, and the local chocolate factory is close enough to the football club that it helped pay for the kit. The colours the team wears — yellow first, white away, green in reserve — are the town's colours.

The club took its present shape in 2015, but the squad that started winning things arrived from down the road. When Akhtyrka's Naftovyk-Ukrnafta was wound up in 2018, its reserve side was reorganised into the Trostianets structure and carried the Akhtyrka players, and the place in the top flight of the Sumy region championship, across with it. That is why the fixture against a reborn Naftovyk Akhtyrka carries what it carries, even without a name anyone has settled on for it.

The two met in 2020 with the regional title at stake. Trostianets won 4:0.

That season completed a short run of regional silverware: the championship in 2020 after finishing second the year before, and the regional cup in both 2019 and 2020, having lost the 2018 final. Four trophies in three seasons, all of them inside Sumy region.
