Feyenoord arrived in the 1970–71 European Cup as holders of the trophy and could not beat UTA over two legs — 1–1, then 0–0. A season later they got further, past Austria Salzburg and Vitória Setúbal to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, where Tottenham stopped them.

Those European nights were earned at home: back-to-back Romanian titles in 1968–69 and 1969–70, the fifth and sixth in the club's history.

The club that won them was a factory side. Neuman admired Arsenal, and the red and white the team still wears was copied from London.

The line from that club to the present one is not unbroken. The old UTA was wound up in 2014. A separate club, set up in 2013 and carrying one of the nicknames — Bătrâna Doamnă, the Old Lady — was recognised as its successor in 2017 and took the name FC UTA Arad.
