Match report
Heneral Caballero and Tres de Noviembre met in the D Division Intermedia on Thursday evening, with the visitors completing a convincing 3-1 victory at the home ground. The result shifted expectations considerably on a night where the home side's dominance in possession failed to translate into goals. By then, the visitors had already moved away from the pressure that typically follows a home defeat.
Prieto opened the scoring in the seventh minute, giving the home crowd early momentum. Mareco then turned the match on its head with an own goal in the twenty-second, and here's the thing — that single moment changed everything. The hosts recovered their composure but could not find an equaliser before the break.
Gamarra restored the advantage for the visitors in the sixty-fourth minute, cutting through a tired defence. Riveros sealed the result in the eighty-fifth, stretching the back line one final time. The hosts had sat deep and soaked it up for much of the second half, but the quality of their chances remained insufficient.
The statistics tell a familiar story of misplaced possession. Heneral Caballero held 63 per cent of the ball with 103 attacks, yet managed only four shots on target. Tres de Noviembre registered eight shots on target from 84 attacks, and to be fair, efficiency matters more than volume when you are behind in the table.
The result leaves Heneral Caballero at the top of the table with 50 points from 25 games, while Tres de Noviembre remain in fourteenth place with 23. We had backed the home side with 64 per cent confidence, but the match went differently — and here's the thing, the own goal broke the pattern we expected to see.
