Mountfield HK U20

Before it was Mountfield HK, before it was even Královští Lvi, the club in Hradec Králové was BK Hradec Králové, set up in 1926. The name changed more than once over the following decades — Stadion, Lev, plain HC Hradec Králové — but it was in 2012 that the senior side took the Královští Lvi name, the Royal Lions, and when that first team was rebranded Mountfield HK after the 2012–13 season, the youth setup kept the old name for itself and became the club's academy.

The under-20 side plays in the Czech Junior Extraliga, a competition it has never actually won since it began in 1995, a gap that sits oddly alongside the senior team's title in 2016/17 and its run to the final in 2022/23. What the academy has produced instead is players: Filip Hronek came through here before moving on to Detroit and the Czech national team, and David Rittich went from this ice to NHL goal at Dallas and Calgary.

Games against HC Dynamo Pardubice carry the Východočeské derby down into the junior ranks as well, the same East Bohemian rivalry the senior clubs play out.

Home matches are played in red, white, black and yellow at the ČPP Arena, a ground in a city that has watched this club go by several different names before settling on the one it plays under now.
