Rostock currently field their basketball side in the Basketball Bundesliga, a place the Seawolves reached only in 2022, and each season in the top flight still counts as a test of whether the promotion holds. The club also carries that ambition into Europe, having gone through the FIBA Europe Cup group stage in the 2023–24 campaign, finishing second in a six-team pool.

The team traces back to a merger of three local basketball departments — SG Fischkombinat Rostock, HSG Uni Rostock and HSG Warnemünde — brought together in 1994 under the name EBC Rostock. The Seawolves name and its maritime nod to the city's harbour history came later, in 2012.

That business arrived through the ProA title in 2021–22, sealed against Tigers Tübingen with an away win followed by a home win in the final, the result that sent Rostock up a division for the first time. It followed an earlier climb through ProB Nord in 2013–14.

Elias Baggette became the first player developed at the club to be called into the German squad for EuroBasket qualifiers.

With the top division now the standard rather than the target, the Seawolves head into the new season.
