The Asian Challenge Cup Women is the second-tier senior women's national team volleyball competition in Asia. Organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), it sits below the premier AVC Women's Volleyball Championship. The tournament serves as a developmental platform for teams not participating in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL). Unlike the AVC Championship which features the continent's elite, this cup focuses on emerging nations, offering crucial FIVB ranking points and competitive experience.
The competition underwent significant rebranding over recent years. It was formerly known as the AVC Women's Challenge Cup, then the AVC Women's Nations Cup, before becoming the AVC Women's Cup in 2026. The tournament was founded by the AVC, with its first actual edition held in 2022 in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, after planned 2018 and 2020 editions were canceled. The competition is held biennially, typically featuring ten to twelve teams in a centralized host-nation format with group stages followed by knockout rounds.
The competition's qualification role has evolved significantly since its inception. Initially serving as a pathway to the FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup, it now grants the winner direct entry to the AVC Women's Volleyball Championship. This shift highlights the increasing importance of the event for regional teams seeking higher-level competition. Notable winners include Vietnam, who won three consecutive titles in 2023 in Gresik, Indonesia, 2024 in Manila, Philippines, and 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam under the Challenge Cup and Nations Cup branding. South Korea won the most recent 2026 edition in Candon, Philippines, marking their first title in the tournament.
For the current 2022 season, the participating teams include Australia Women, China Women, Chinese Taipei Women, Iran Women, Japan Women, and Philippines Women. These teams compete for the right to advance through the regional structure. The tournament provides a vital stepping stone for developing volleyball programs across Asia, allowing nations to gain exposure against regional rivals without the pressure of the top-tier championship.
