Al-Ain beat Al-Nassr 2-1 in the third round of the Pro League on Friday evening. The hosts were ahead by then, having taken the lead after a penalty miss from S. Rahimi and a goal from C. Al-Ain dominated possession at 55 per cent and generated 2.55 expected goals from their 18 shots. Seven found the target, eleven went wide, and eight corners came their way. Al-Nassr managed only one shot on target from four attempts, with 0.53 expected goals to show for their 83 attacks.
And here's the thing — the statistics tell you Al-Ain were dominant, but Al-Nassr had their moments. Big chances created sat at one for the hosts and two for the visitors, suggesting the away side were dangerous in transition. The goalkeeper made five saves to keep the score respectable, though it wasn't enough.
The result keeps Al-Ain on course for a strong season. Three wins from three games puts them on nine points in third place. Al-Nassr dropped to seventh with four points from a win, a draw and a loss, and they need to find consistency if they want to climb.
