Rubio New upset Guarani with late winner in Clausura
Rubio New secured a 3-2 victory over Guarani in the fifth round of the Professional Division Clausura at Estadio Luis Alfonso Gygani on Friday evening. The away side overturned a first-half deficit to claim all three points, extending their recent struggles while handing Guarani another disappointment after a promising start.
Guarani took the lead through C. Gimenez in the 45th minute, capitalising on pressure ahead of half-time. Rubio New responded immediately with three substitutions at the interval, bringing on N. Romero, F. Fernandez and A. Ledesma. The changes appeared to shift the momentum, as B. Blasi levelled in the 53rd minute before W. Mendieta restored the visitors' advantage just a minute later.
Guarani pushed for an equaliser and J. Garcia found the net in the 67th minute to restore parity. By then the match had opened up considerably, with both sides trading blows. Rubio New regained the lead in the 78th minute through M. Anasco, a goal that proved decisive despite Guarani's continued pressure in the closing stages.
Possession favoured the home side at 57 per cent, yet Rubio New were more clinical with their chances. Guarani registered four shots on target compared to the visitors' three, but the difference in conversion rate told the story. The statistics suggest a match decided by moments rather than sustained dominance.
The result leaves Guarani fourth on six points from three games, while Rubio New remain rooted to 12th place with just one point. The away side's record shows two defeats and one draw from their opening fixtures, making this victory a notable exception to their otherwise difficult start to the campaign.
