About the player
Matvei Igonen made his senior international debut for Estonia against Vanuatu in November 2017, keeping a clean sheet in a 1–0 win, and has since gone on to earn 17 caps, including a clean sheet against Cyprus in a UEFA Nations League play-off. He came through the youth ranks at Ajax Lasnamäe and Infonet Tallinn before breaking into the FCI Tallinn first team, where he won the Meistriliiga, the Estonian Cup and the Estonian Supercup.
A move to Norway's Lillestrøm SK followed in January 2018, though it was back home at FC Flora, first on loan and then permanently, that he developed further, adding two further Meistriliiga titles and another Estonian Supercup, and earning a place in the Meistriliiga Team of the Season in 2020.
His career then took him abroad again, first to Poland's Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała, then to Bulgaria, where a short stint at Hebar Pazardzhik was followed by a transfer to Botev Plovdiv. There he added a Bulgarian Cup winner's medal in 2023–24 to his collection.
Igonen joined Degerfors IF on a free transfer in July 2025, and the club's confidence in him was underlined in January 2026 when he signed a contract extension running until the end of 2027.
