About the player
Nahom Girmai Netabay was born in Kristianstad and built his career almost entirely within Swedish football before adding a Danish chapter and, eventually, an international one with Eritrea. He started out at Kristianstad BoIS as a youngster before moving into senior football with Kristianstads FF, then continued locally at Kristianstad FC after a club merger.
His best spell came at Varbergs BoIS , which he joined on a free transfer at the end of 2017. Playing in the Superettan, Netabay finished 15th in the league's scoring charts with ten goals in 2018 and 13th with eight the following year.
That move came in December 2019, when he signed for IK Sirius on another free transfer, giving him his first taste of Allsvenskan football across the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He then joined Kalmar FF at the end of 2021, staying with the club into early 2024, before switching to Danish football with Næstved Boldklub for the 2024 season.
Netabay holds dual Swedish and Eritrean citizenship, and it is the latter he has represented at international level. Those two appearances mark the start of his senior international career.
