Afturelding Women

HK is the name that comes up whenever Afturelding's women reach a final. The club beat them for the title in 2012, again in 2014, and once more in 2016, that last one settled 3-1 with the decisive set won 15-12 in Kópavogur. Three finals against the same opponent, three times the trophy went back to Mosfellsbær.

The volleyball department itself is younger than the club that houses it. Ungmennafélagið Afturelding was founded on 11 April 1909 in Mosfellsbær, but its Blakdeild was only set up in 1999, by a group of women who wanted the sport under the club's banner.

What followed was not a single dominant run but a pattern of returning. After the second and third titles in 2014 and 2016, a fourth championship followed in 2021. The most recent final, in 2023, went the other way: Afturelding lost the tie-breaker to KA Akureyri.

Valur and Stjarnan sit as the nearest rivals in the division, though nothing in the fixture list carries a name of its own; the derbies HK gave the club mattered more because of what was at stake in them, not because of geography. Home matches are played at Íþróttamiðstöðin að Varmá, in red and black.

Among the current squad, Sóldís Björt Leifsdóttir Blöndal is the one supporters point to first, having finished as the team's top scorer in the 2025-26 season.
