KA Akureyri Women

Icelandic women's volleyball has settled into a two-team argument, and KA sits on one side of it. Since 2019 the club has met UMF Afturelding in final after final, and it is that rivalry, more than any single trophy, that has defined the sport's top flight over the past six years.

KA's own share of the argument has grown heavier lately. The championship arrived in 2019, then again in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 — four in a row from 2022, a run Afturelding has not managed to break. The Cup came the same way, in 2019, 2022 and 2025, and in 2025 KA took both in the same season.

The volleyball section carries the name of a club that has existed since 1928, though the team itself only shows up in the record from the 1989/90 season, when it played in the men's European Champions League. The women's side plays in black and white at Íþróttahús KA, known locally as Hamar.

Miguel Mateo Castrillo has coached the team through the recent title run, from 2022 to 2025. The 2021/22 season, which opened that sequence, had its own faces: Paula Del Olmo finished as the team's top scorer, Jóna Arnarsdóttir was named the league's best setter, and Tea Andrić took the award for best left spiker.

KA head into the new season defending both the championship and the Cup, with Afturelding the team standing in the way of a fifth straight title.
