«The Green Army»
Völsungur's women turn up this season in the Mizunodeild, the top flight of Icelandic volleyball. The step up from that promotion has kept them measured against the country's established sides rather than chasing a repeat of the second-tier crown.
Völsungur itself grew out of Húsavík in 1927 as a home for the town's sport more broadly, with volleyball one of the branches carrying the green and white of "The Green Army" into competition. The women's team plays its home matches at the Húsavík Sports Hall.
Older claims of championship and cup wins from the late 1970s and mid-1980s circulate around the club's volleyball history, but only the 2021 first-division title holds up against the federation's own records, so that season remains the one worth naming.
No single player has been passed down as the face of that Mizunodeild run or the seasons since.
