Bandırmaspor

Its football club has carried the town's name into the lower reaches of the Turkish league system for six decades, formed on 5 June 1965 at a meeting inside the Şehir Kulübü.

The club plays in bordeaux and white at the Bandırma 17 Eylül Stadyumu. It has never reached the Süper Lig. Three times — in 1974-75, 1988-89 and 2009-10 — Bandırmaspor topped the 3. Lig, and in 2019-20 it won the 2. Lig outright. A promotion play-off title followed in 2015-16, and the club climbed out of the amateur ranks into the 3. Lig in 2007-08.

What the club has instead is a habit of arriving at the door of the top flight and being turned away. It reached the 1. Lig play-off final in 2021-22 and again in 2024-25, and lost a 2. Lig play-off final back in 2010-11 — three attempts at the last step up, none of them successful.

The fixture that matters locally is against Bursaspor, styled the Marmara Derbisi since both clubs sit within the same Marmara region; nothing else on the calendar, not games against MKE Ankaragücü, Sakaryaspor or Balıkesirspor, carries that weight. Fans know the club as BanBan, or the Star of Southern Marmara.
