Muğlaspor's route back to the second tier ran through a penalty shoot-out that lasted long enough to feel like a separate match: 8-7 against Elazığspor in the 2025-26 play-off final. It sent the club into the 1. Lig. A year earlier the squad had already climbed out of the amateur ranks, winning the Turkish Regional Amateur League in 2023-24, and the 3. Lig title picked up in 2024-25 barely had time to settle before the play-off run overtook it. The club has now finished top of the 3. Lig three times — 1995-96, 2001-02 and 2024-25.

None of that silverware carries a Turkish Cup or top-flight medal; Muğlaspor's honours belong to the lower divisions. The club was founded on 30 June 1967 under a decision of the General Directorate of Physical Education, and it spent 1981 to 1995 in the top flight before a second, shorter spell in 1996-97.
