Cooma Tigers FC

The senior side plays its football in Canberra now, in the National Premier Leagues ACT, at the Australian Institute of Sport. Bigger nights go to Deakin Stadium or McKellar Park. The move north came in 2022, and it took the name with it: Cooma Tigers became Canberra Tigers, then simply Tigers FC. Yellow and black gave way to orange and black at the same time.

Not everything travelled. The juniors and the community teams stayed behind in Cooma as Cooma FC, still playing at Nijong Oval.

A partnership struck with Brindabella Blues FC in 2015 produced the Tigers FC entity for the NPL, and four years on it delivered the grand final over Gungahlin United and the Federation Cup against Canberra FC in the same year. The 2021 championship arrived differently — the season was cancelled and the Tigers were declared champions — though the cup that year was won on the pitch, against Monaro Panthers.

Belconnen United and Canberra Olympic are the fixtures that carry weight.

All of it grew out of a construction camp.
