Deportes Temuco

Football in Temuco began under another name and another sponsor. Club Deportivo Bancario, founded on 27 June 1916, carried the game in the city for decades before the modern institution took shape. Corporación Club de Deportes Temuco formed on 22 February 1960, and five years later, on 20 March 1965, it merged with Green Cross, a Santiago club also dating to 1916 and one that had survived a 1961 plane crash. The merger produced Green Cross-Temuco, and with it the white and green kit the club still wears — albiverde. The crest kept that inheritance too: a round shield, a green cross on white, the letter "T" set in the middle.

The Green Cross-Temuco side played in the Primera División through the late 1960s and 1970s, with a break before a brief return in 1983-84. Names changed again after that — Green Cross-Cautín for one year, then Deportes Temuco from 1985, and Deportivo Temuco for a single season in 2007. A further merger, with Unión Temuco in 2013, brought the club back into Primera B.

The best league finish came in 1969, third place, and the closest the club came to a title was the 1977-78 liguilla final, lost 0-1 to Universidad de Chile. Three Primera B championships followed later — 1991, 2001, and 2015-16 — along with the 1987 Copa Apertura Segunda División. In the Copa Chile, the furthest the club has reached is the semi-final, in 1984 and again in 1998.

Honorino Landa, who went to the 1962 World Cup with the national side, played up front for the club in the early 1960s. The academy still feeds the first team heavily — 14 cantera players were named in the 2026 squad. Matches are played at Estadio Municipal Germán Becker, holding 18,100 since its 2008 renovation.
