Devonport City

Devonport City go into the current NPL Tasmania season as the side everyone else measures themselves against.

The club that plays now was put together in 1966, when Devonport United merged with the Mersey Soccer Club, though the thread runs back further, to a 1952 amalgamation of Devonport and Devonport Rovers. The club settled at Valley Road, where it has stayed since 1972.

For a long stretch the trophies came in ones and twos: the Tasmanian State Championship in 1994 and 1998, the Northern Championship in 2000 and 2002, then the state title twice in a row in 2003 and 2004. What changed is the rate. Since 2013 the league title has come six times, and the run has hardened the two fixtures that matter most on the calendar — Glenorchy Knights, and the North-West Coast derby against Ulverstone.

Chris Gallo's name sits in the club's records twice over: he played for Devonport City, then coached them.
