Freisen Women

SSC Freisen go into the season in the 2. Bundesliga Pro, the tier they reached for 2021/22 after a vacancy opened up in the league structure above the 3. Liga Süd, where they had spent three years building toward it. Before that the club worked its way up through the Regionalliga Südwest, one rung at a time.

Brigitte Schumacher started the club in 1997 and has run it ever since from both chairs that matter: she is president and head coach of the women's team.

Where SSC Freisen has made its name is the Saarlandpokal. The club has not lost the final since 2018, taking the title every year through 2025, seven in a row. That run reached beyond the state stage in 2022/23, when Freisen went out in the round of sixteen of the DVV Cup against record champions SSC Palmberg Schwerin. The squad has also served as a launchpad: Kaya Young came through at Freisen before going on to win the World Championship with the United States' U17 side.

Locally, nothing carries more weight than the fixture with TV Lebach, known around Freisen as the "ewiges Derby" — the eternal derby, or simply the Classico. In the 2. Matches are played at the Bruchwaldhalle, which holds 460.

Seven straight Saarland Cups, unbeaten since 2018.
