Altdorf Women

Promotion to the 2. Bundesliga Süd in 2020 came only after the club had already won it on court. Altdorf's women took the 3. Liga Ost title in 2019/20, and members raised more than €13,000 through crowdfunding to close the gap, and the club took its place in the second division for the 2020/21 season.

It was not the first time the Lionesses had won that division. The same 3. Liga Ost title had come in 2013/14, not long after the newly created league admitted the Altdorf side. The women's section was founded in 1976, within a multi-sport club that has existed in Altdorf bei Nürnberg since 1881.

Since the promotion, the team - known in recent seasons under the sponsor's name TV Suspa Altdorf, and playing in red and white - has held its place in the 2. Bundesliga Süd and twice finished runner-up, in 2022/23 and again in 2025/26. Home matches are contested at Sporthalle Winkelhaid, and the fixture against TV Dingolfing is treated locally as a derby.

Christy Swagerty, an American who played professionally before taking charge as head coach in 2022, has led the side through both of those runner-up campaigns.
