Gacko

The story of Gacko's women in volleyball is a story of restarting. The men's side that once played under that name went silent in 1992, one of the many casualties of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and when the town's volleyball life picked itself back up afterwards, it was the women who carried it forward: ŽOK Gacko was formed in 1996, a fresh side built in a town still working out what came after the war.

It took years before the Tigresses turned that survival into silverware, and once they started winning, they did not stop.

The club plays in black and red, and its supporters know it simply as the Tigresses, a nickname that has stuck as the results have piled up.

Home games are played at the Gacko Sports Hall, a modest venue holding a thousand people, in a town that had spent years rebuilding what the war had taken apart before it had anything to cheer for on a volleyball court again.
