Until it is built, the national teams train and play wherever the multi-purpose venue allows.

The Gambia Volleyball Federation traces back to 1972, when it was registered as the Gambia Volleyball Association, and international competition came much later — the national team did not take the court abroad until 2011.

What volleyball has built since then sits on the beach and on the indoor court against one opponent. In 2019, Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra won gold in beach volleyball at the African Games in Rabat, beating Morocco 2–1 under coach Pa Barrow. The indoor men's side has made Senegal its measure: the two meet regularly in the Zone II Championship and in the Senegambia Cup, a fixture known locally as the Senegambia Derby. Gambia has come out on top in the biggest of those meetings — 3–1 in 2019, 3–0 in 2022, and 3–2 in Banjul in 2026 — and the latest win sent the team through to the CAVB Men's African Volleyball Nations Championship in Tunisia.

Bai Dodou Jallow leads the federation and has since taken a seat on the CAVB's Sport Organizing Commission. What it still lacks is a stage of its own: a proper indoor arena to train and play in without borrowing a stadium built for other sports.
