Istogu

Istog play their football this season in the First League of Kosovo, the country's second tier, still chasing a first taste of the top flight's better days after slipping back down the divisions over the years. The club has never reached a Superliga title race or a Kosovo Cup final, and the closest it came to making noise at the highest level was a 13th-place finish in the 2015/16 Superliga season — a campaign that stands as the reference point whenever anyone asks what the Trout have managed at their best.

The club traces back to 1947, formed in the town of Istog under Yugoslav administration, when it played in the country's lower leagues long before Kosovo had a football association of its own to join. It carried that same name and structure through the political changes that followed, never merging with another side or relocating, and once Kosovo's own competitions were established it simply carried on playing under them.

Home games are played at the Demush Mavraj Stadium, which holds 6,000, though the ground rarely fills anywhere near that for Second Division fixtures. The team takes the field in blue shirts with black sleeve stripes, white shorts and white socks — colours that have given the club its nickname, Troftat, the Trout, a name tied to the fish rather than to any player or manager who wore the shirt.

No individual name has attached itself to the club's history in the way trophies or promotions might have produced elsewhere. Istog's story so far belongs to the shirt and the town rather than to any one man who wore it.
