Kangasala Women

Kangasala Areena holds 700 people, a size that suits a club whose home games rarely need more. LP Kangasala has played its volleyball there since the ground opened, one of the smaller venues in the women's Mestaruusliiga but close enough to the court that the crowd's noise carries.

The club was founded in 1994 and has built its identity in red and black over three decades in a league where Finnish volleyball's bigger names usually take the medals. That changed in the 2025-2026 season, when Kangasala finished third in the SM-sarja, the first bronze of note in the club's recent history and a result that outran what the town's size would suggest.

The season that produced it came with turnover, not stability: reports in the build-up to the campaign flagged the club losing key players, the kind of departure that usually costs a mid-table side its place in the league rather than lifting it onto the podium. LP Kangasala's answer was the medal itself.

The club's own line on itself, "Yhes ylin ilo" — the highest joy, together — reads less like a marketing phrase and more like a description of a squad that had to replace people it could not afford to lose and still finished the year ahead of clubs with deeper rosters.
