Viesti Women

In 2021–22 LP Viesti became the first Finnish women's volleyball team to win a match in the Champions League, beating ASPTT Mulhouse 3–1. In 2014–15 it was the first Finnish and Nordic volleyball club to take part. In Europe the team plays as LP SALO.

The club itself is younger than that reach suggests. On 28 February 2008 the women's volleyball section separated from Salon Viesti, the parent club founded in 1912, so that elite play in Salo could carry on under its own management. The "LP" stands for lentopallo, the Finnish word for volleyball. Salon Viesti had won the Finnish Cup in 2002, 2004 and 2007. The new club won it in 2008, in its first season, and took the league title in 2009.

That was the start of a run of seven consecutive Finnish championships, from 2009 to 2015. Between 2010 and 2012 the team won 114 matches in a row, the longest such streak in Finnish women's ball sports.

Anna Czakan, who captained the Finnish national team, played here. So did a line of imports: Olena Napalkova from Ukraine, Pamela Owino from Kenya, Anniek Siebring from the Netherlands and Dubravka Rakić from Serbia. HPK from Hämeenlinna is the club's chief rival, though the two have no named derby.

Home games are in Salo Halli, which has 1,612 fixed seats. Another 700 chairs can be set out on the floor, and for events the hall holds up to 3,600 people.
