Arctic Rovaniemi Women

Neea Tasala has spent long enough in an Arctic Volley shirt to have played under both names the club has carried. She belongs to the Rovaniemi side the way a handful of players belong to a small-city club: not through medals, since the senior team has none at national level, but through simply staying while the team around her changed.

That team started out in 1991 as WoVo Rovaniemi, and kept the name for three decades before a merger with Napapiirin Palloketut in 2022 turned it into Arctic Volley, known locally as ArVo. The senior side plays in the Mestaruusliiga, Finland's top flight, without a league title or cup to show for it. The one triumph on record belongs to the age-group team: the A-girls won the Finnish junior championship in 2022, beating Oriveden Ponnistus in the final.

Home games are played at Lappi Areena, inside the Santasport sports institute, with room for around 3,500 spectators. It is not a venue built around volleyball alone, but it has been enough to keep a club going this far north through Mestaruusliiga seasons without a trophy to justify the trip.

Alongside the long-serving Finns like Tasala and Outi Polso, the club has also brought in players from further afield, among them Megan VanderMeer.
