The most recent result belongs to the women. In 2026 they reached the final of the CAVA Championship, the Central Asian tournament, and came away with silver. It followed silver in the AVC Cup in 2024 and in the CAVA Challenge Cup a year before that.

The national programme is younger than the volleyball behind it. Until 1992, players from Kazakhstan played for the Soviet team. That year the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan was founded and joined the FIVB, the sport's world governing body. The men reached the final of the Asian Championship the following year, in 1993.

The men took bronze at the Asian Games in 1994, then bronze at the Asian Cup in 2014. In 2017 they were back in an Asian Championship final and again took silver, 24 years after the first. The women's medals came more often: silver at the Asian Championship in 2005, Asian Games bronze in 2010, and Asian Cup bronze in 2012 and 2014. They moved up to Asian Cup silver in 2016.

The team has no fixed home. Matches are shared between the Alau Ice Palace, which seats 8,000, and the Palace of Sports "Kazakhstan", which holds 5,532. Both are in Astana. The colours, blue and yellow, come from the national flag.

Beyond Asia the record is thinner. The men's best finish at a World Championship is 19th place in 2002. The women reached ninth at the 2008 Olympics. Neither team has won a continental title, and in each of the finals they have reached, they have left with silver.
