The men's national team is a product of independence. Once Uzbekistan left the Soviet Union in 1991, the Uzbekistan Volleyball Federation set up its own side and joined the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in 1992. The team's first recorded Asian Championship came in 1997.

Since then the Asian Championship has been hard going. Uzbekistan has played in six editions, in 1997, 2003, 2011, 2013, 2019 and 2021. The best finish is 13th, in 2021.

The results have come in the Central Asian competitions. In 2022 Uzbekistan took third place at the Asian Challenge Cup in Cholpon-Ata, beating Mongolia in the third-place match. The next two years brought finals and two defeats. Sri Lanka won 3–0 in Colombo in 2023. In 2024 the tournament came to Tashkent, and Kyrgyzstan won the final 3–0 in front of a home crowd. The Yunusabad Sports Complex, where the team trains and hosts matches, seats 2,450. It has also staged the FIVB Boys' U19 World Championship.

The 2026 CAVA Championship, the Central Asian tournament, ended in fourth place for Uzbekistan, as it had in 2022. Along the way they handed Kazakhstan its first loss of the tournament, 3–2 in five sets. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are the opponents Uzbekistan meets most often in these events.

Karimjon Rakhimkulov is head coach. His squad for the 2023 Asian Championship was built around outside hitters such as Umidjon Yuldashev and Farrukh Khakimov, with Khabibullokhon Isamov at setter.

The team also played at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. It was Uzbekistan's first appearance in volleyball there since the sport returned to the programme for the country. A team the federation created in the first year of independence had reached a continental multi-sport Games.
