The Pakistan Volleyball Federation is run from Lahore, in Punjab, while the national team's big matches and training take place in Islamabad, at the 10,223-seat Liaquat Gymnasium in the Pakistan Sports Complex. The team is known as The Green Shirts, after the jersey it wears with white shorts.

The team took shape in 1955, when the federation was founded, and it was quickly among the best in Asia. At the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta it took bronze, behind Japan and India. Five years later in Tehran it won the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship.

Pakistan finished fifth in 2010 and fifth again in 2022, when Mubashir Raza was captain and Murad Jehan his vice-captain. Raza also captained the side at the 2023 Asian Championship, where it finished 11th. In 2019 Aimal Khan was the top scorer of the continental championship, with 153 points, though the team ended that tournament seventh. Pakistan has also won the Central Asian Volleyball Championship, beating Turkmenistan.

India is the opponent that matters most.

The federation now looks to the next generation. In 2022 it launched the Engro Volleyball Development Programme for young players, and it has brought in foreign coaching, among them the Brazilian Cristiano Rodrigues Campos. Naseer Ahmed, a former captain, is now the team manager.
